How do I install the Vertical Universal Shaft on the YIKONG YK4101 RC Car? What are the differences between the three available materials?

Installing the YIKONG YK4101 RC Car Vertical Universal Shaft is straightforward. First, remove the axle housing or the related drivetrain components, then take out the original vertical universal shaft. Install the new Vertical Universal Shaft by aligning it with the upper and lower drivetrain connections, making sure the retaining pins are fully seated in their mounting holes. Reassemble the axle housing and tighten all screws securely. After installation, rotate the wheels by hand to ensure the shaft moves smoothly without binding or excessive play.

The YIKONG YK4101 RC Car Vertical Universal Shaft is available in three different materials, each with its own advantages:

  • Plastic Vertical Universal Shaft (Part No. 13022): Lightweight, economical, and slightly flexible. It's a good choice for everyday driving and direct replacement. Under heavy impact, the plastic shaft may fail first, which can help protect other drivetrain components.

  • Aluminum Alloy Vertical Universal Shaft (Part No. 13040): Lighter than steel and stronger than plastic, making it suitable for general off-road driving and mild performance upgrades. However, aluminum alloy is typically less wear-resistant than steel under prolonged heavy loads.

  • Steel Vertical Universal Shaft (Part No. 13071): The strongest and most wear-resistant option. It's ideal for high-torque setups, rock crawling, and demanding off-road conditions. While it offers the best durability, its higher strength also means that severe impacts may transfer more force to other drivetrain components, such as the gears and differential.

If you mainly drive for fun, the Plastic or Aluminum Alloy Vertical Universal Shaft should meet your needs. If you frequently crawl over rough terrain, use a high-power setup, or want maximum durability, the Steel Vertical Universal Shaft (Part No. 13071) is the better choice.
