Is this YIKONG YK4061 rc car upgrade shell (with lights) worth buying? How do I install it?

The YIKONG YK4061 RC Car Upgrade Parts Metal Body is a premium stainless steel body upgrade designed specifically for the YIKONG YK4061 RC Car. Made from 1.2 mm 304 stainless steel with a baked enamel sand-black finish, it offers improved durability, a realistic scale appearance, and excellent resistance to deformation. The complete kit includes the metal body (618 g) and a pair of headlights (20 g). Since the body is designed to use the original mounting holes, installation is straightforward and requires no permanent modification to the vehicle.

What's Included?

The YIKONG YK4061 RC Car Metal Body kit includes:

  • Metal Body ×1set (618 g)
  • Headlights ×1set (20 g)

Please note:

  • The complete metal body does not include the front lights. Front lights must be purchased separately.
  • The hood is hand-welded for increased strength. Small weld marks are normal and are not considered defects.
  • The front grille is manufactured from gray 3D-printed PLA material.

How to Install the Metal Body?

Installing the YIKONG YK4061 RC Car Metal Body requires only basic tools and uses the vehicle's original mounting points.

Step 1: Remove the Original Body

Carefully remove the original body shell and retain all original screws, as most of them will be reused during installation.

Step 2: Position the Metal Body

Place the new metal body onto the chassis and align it with the factory mounting holes.

The upgrade is designed to fit the original chassis without drilling or modifying the vehicle.

Step 3: Secure the Hood

The rear mounting holes of the hood use the included installation screws supplied with the kit.

Install these screws first, but do not fully tighten them until the body has been properly aligned.

Step 4: Install the Remaining Body Panels

Use the original mounting holes and original screws to secure the remaining sections of the metal body.

Check that all panels fit correctly before fully tightening every screw.

Step 5: Install the Front Grille

Install the gray PLA front grille in its designated position.

Handle the grille carefully during installation to avoid excessive force on the 3D-printed part.

Step 6: Install the Headlights (Optional)

If you have purchased the compatible front light kit:

  • Install both headlights in the designated mounting positions.

  • Connect the wiring according to the supplied harness.

  • Verify that the wiring does not interfere with steering or suspension movement.

Step 7: Test the Installation

Before driving:

  • Check that every screw is tightened evenly.

  • Confirm the hood opens and closes normally (if applicable).

  • Ensure the body does not interfere with steering, suspension, or tires.

  • Verify all electrical wiring is safely routed.

Front Light Installation Notes

The optional headlights have the following specifications:

  • Power: 3W ×2

  • Light Color: White

  • Compatible Battery: 2S–4S LiPo

  • Power Supply: Battery balance connector

  • Default Connector: 3S balance connector

  • If using 2S or 4S batteries, specify the appropriate balance connector when ordering.

  • Wiring is required during installation.

Installation Tips

For the best installation results on the YIKONG YK4061 RC Car:

  • Test-fit the body before tightening the screws.

  • Tighten screws evenly to prevent body distortion.

  • Avoid overtightening the stainless-steel mounting points.

  • Keep all wiring away from moving drivetrain components.

  • Recheck every mounting screw after the first few runs.

Daily Maintenance Tips

To keep the metal body in excellent condition:

  • Clean mud and sand after off-road driving.

  • Dry the stainless steel after exposure to water.

  • Regularly inspect mounting screws for looseness.

  • Touch up damaged paint if deep scratches expose the metal.

  • Inspect the headlight wiring periodically for wear.

FAQ

Q1: Does installation require drilling?

No. The metal body is designed to use the original mounting holes, and no drilling or permanent modification is required.

Q2: Why are there weld marks on the hood?

The hood is hand-welded to improve structural strength. Minor weld marks are a normal result of the manufacturing process.

Q3: Are the front lights included?

No. The complete metal body does not include the front lights. They must be purchased separately.

Q4: Which battery does the headlight kit support?

The headlights support 2S–4S LiPo batteries and are powered through the battery balance connector.

Q5: Do I need new screws?

Only the rear hood mounting points use the supplied screws. The remaining body sections are installed using the original mounting holes and original screws.
